How much does a small business website cost in Ontario in 2026?

Published October 2026 by SixPin Media. Prices in Canadian dollars.

If you've asked three people what a website costs, you've probably heard three very different answers, from "free" to "ten grand". They can all be right. The price depends on who builds it, how many pages it has, what it needs to do and who looks after it once it's live.

This guide gives you honest ranges for 2026 so you can budget and compare quotes. We're a web company, so we'll show our own prices too, but we'll be upfront about when another option makes more sense.

The short answer

Published Canadian pricing guides put most professionally built small business websites somewhere between about $2,000 and $10,000 up front, with a simple one-page site often costing roughly $500 to $3,000 (OnePage Pro, 2026 guide). Online stores usually start around $5,000 to $10,000 and large custom builds go well beyond that (GoDaddy Canada). At the other end, do-it-yourself builders cost a few dozen dollars a month, and some Canadian companies sell monthly website plans from about $25 to $279 a month (SIX9 Design comparison, checked September 2026).

These are market ranges from other companies' published guides, not quotes. Prices vary a lot across Ontario.

What pushes the price up or down

Number of pages

A one-page site with your services, areas, hours and a contact form is the cheapest to build and keep current. Each extra page means more writing, design and upkeep.

Writing and photos

Many quotes assume you'll supply all the words and photos. If the builder writes your content, expect to pay more. It's often worth it: clear wording sells better and helps on Google.

Features

Online booking, payments, an online store, quote calculators or customer logins all add cost. Most local service businesses only need a call button, a contact form and a way to book.

Ongoing care

A website isn't a one-time cost. Someone needs to pay for hosting, renew the domain, keep it secure and update hours and photos. A cheap build can get expensive if every small change is billed by the hour.

Costs people forget

Questions to ask before you pay anyone

  1. Who owns the domain? It should be registered in your business's name.
  2. What happens if I leave? Can you take the site with you, and at what cost?
  3. What's included each month? Hosting, edits, security, support?
  4. Is there a contract? How much notice do you need to give to cancel?
  5. Does it work well on phones? Most local customers will see your site on a phone first.
  6. Is basic SEO included? Page titles, descriptions and your business details should be set up properly from day one.
  7. Does the price include HST?

Be careful with anyone who guarantees first place on Google. Nobody controls Google's results.

What SixPin Media charges

We build simple, fast websites for local service businesses across the GTA, on a monthly plan that includes hosting and upkeep. Prices are in CAD, plus HST.

If you leave, your domain and content stay yours, and content export is free. If you also want to keep the website files, there's a one-time buyout: your plan's monthly price for each month left until month 12 if you leave in your first year (never less than your setup fee), then a flat fee equal to your setup fee. Every plan is month to month with no contract: cancel with 30 days' notice.

Common questions

Is a one-page website enough for a small business?

For many local service businesses, yes. It can cover your services, areas, hours, photos and a way to contact you. You can add pages later as you grow.

Are website prices in Ontario quoted with HST?

Often not. Many quotes, including ours, are plus HST, which is 13% in Ontario. Always check.

Why do website quotes vary so much?

They include different things: number of pages, who writes the content, features, hosting and ongoing updates. Compare what's included, not just the headline price.
